Horizontal Road Boring
(Jack & Bore)
This is what DTU was built on and what we do better than anyone in the region. Horizontal road boring — also called jack and bore or auger boring — installs pipe and casing directly through the earth beneath a road without cutting or disturbing the surface.
DTU runs both dry bore (standard sand and clay) and wet bore (high water table, saturated soils) operations. We've bored under state roads, county roads, interstates, railroad crossings, and parking lots throughout Florida.
- Pipe sizes: 2" through 48" diameter casing
- Bore lengths from 50 LF to 600+ LF
- Steel, HDPE, and PVC casing options
- Grade-critical bores with documentation
- FDOT, county, and municipal ROW experienced
- Annular space grouting when specified
Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)
When a straight-line bore won't work — because the path curves, the depth varies, or the crossing is too complex for conventional boring — DTU deploys HDD.
HDD uses a guided drill head with real-time locating technology to steer the bore along a predetermined path, then pulls conduit, pipe, or casing back through the bore hole.
- Curved and complex bore paths
- Under waterways, wetlands, and sensitive areas
- Bore log and tracking documentation provided
- Multiple pipe materials compatible
- Minimum surface disruption — no open cut needed
- Suitable for fiber, water, gas, electric
Conduit & Casing Installation
The bore is only half the job. DTU installs the conduit, casing, and carrier pipe as part of a complete, documented installation — not as an afterthought.
We work with general contractors, utility owners, and municipalities to specify the right casing type and size, pull the carrier pipe correctly, and document everything for the project record.
- Steel casing — ASTM specified wall thickness
- HDPE conduit — Schedule 40 / 80 / SDR
- PVC — all common schedules
- Multi-conduit duct banks
- Spacer and end seal installation
- As-built documentation provided
Fiber Optic & Telecom Boring
The Southeast's broadband expansion is happening now — and DTU is ready to bore for it. We install conduit for fiber optic networks, cellular infrastructure, and telecommunications systems under roads across Florida and beyond.
- HDPE conduit for fiber optic cable protection
- Multiple conduit pulls in a single bore
- Both single crossings and multi-span packages
- Rural broadband infrastructure experience
- ISP, telecom carrier, and municipal broadband projects
- Fast mobilization for time-sensitive rollouts
Water & Sewer Crossings
DTU has completed hundreds of water main, force main, and gravity sewer crossings for municipalities, utility authorities, and private developers across Florida. We understand the grade requirements, inspection procedures, and DOT permit processes that these projects demand.
- Grade-critical bores with real-time verification
- Force main and gravity sewer experience
- DIP, PVC, and HDPE carrier pipe compatible
- Municipal and FDOT inspection experience
- Pressure testing coordination if needed
- As-built documentation and bore logs
